The Department has been active in developing students in academics as well as co-curricular programs. The Botany Society charts out year round program and through under graduate students also participate in inter-collegiate competitions.

The Botany Club is primarily a forum for the Post Graduate students to hone their presentation skills. This apart eminent persons from accross the globe are invited to share their knowledge and motivate the students to choose appropriate field and excel. Since its inception in 1960 the Club has been functioning nonstop.

The inter-collegiate Venkattasubban Oratorial competettion organized annualy by the department is a prestigious program where fierce competettion always exists. Capparis magazine published with original content made and edited by the department persinnel is also a inter-collegiate cultural event organized by the department are programs that help students develop editorial, competetive and organizing skills.

Formal study tours are part of both undergraduate and post graduate programs. As primary focus is on research several informal tours to participate in seminars, workshops and to get training in various techniques are part of the department activities.
