Botany Society of the department was started in 1962 when Prof. K. R. Venkatasubban was functioning as Head. Undergraduate and postgraduate students, research scholars and all teaching faculty of the department are the members of the botany society.

The Head of the Department as the President of the Botany Society oversees the functioning of the society which is run by student office bearers representing each class and a secretary and a treasurer from III B.Sc. class. All student office bearers are by the class.

The Society organizes a fresher’s day evening and a fresher’s trip at the beginning of the academic year to welcome the new students and get introduced to them. The inauguration day and Valedictory day of the society are addressed by guest speakers. The Botany Society conducts inter class competition in a selected sports and literary events and culminates with the Botany Day wherein an onstage cultural competition takes place. The Botany Society also organizes an inter-collegiate cultural event “CAPPARIS” wherein students from Plant Biology department from all city colleges are invited to participate and compete.
